THE BRITON BOARD IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SPEECH AND ITS SUPPORTING SCIENCES PROGRAMS

Occupational Therapy Program

Our Occupational Therapy Program at The Briton Board in Special Education Speech and its Supporting Sciences is dedicated to helping individuals develop the skills they need to participate in daily activities and achieve independence. Led by certified occupational therapists, our program focuses on improving fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, and activities of daily living.

1. Comprehensive Assessment:

Our program begins with a thorough assessment of each student’s functional abilities, strengths, and challenges related to daily activities. Through standardized assessments, clinical observations, and input from caregivers, we gather valuable information to inform individualized intervention plans.

2. Skill Development:

Based on the assessment results, our certified occupational therapists develop personalized intervention plans tailored to the specific needs and goals of each student. We use evidence-based practices and therapeutic techniques to target areas such as fine motor coordination, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, and self-regulation.

3. Hands-On Therapy:

Our therapy sessions are designed to be engaging, interactive, and hands-on, incorporating a variety of activities and exercises to promote skill development and independence. We utilize specialized equipment and adaptive tools to support students in mastering tasks related to self-care, schoolwork, play, and social participation.

4. Collaboration and Family Involvement:

We believe in the importance of collaboration between occupational therapists, educators, families, and other professionals involved in the student’s care. Our program emphasizes open communication, shared goal-setting, and collaboration to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to therapy.

5. Functional Goals and Progress Monitoring:

Our therapy goals are focused on improving functional abilities and enhancing participation in meaningful activities. We regularly monitor the student’s progress and adjust the intervention plan as needed to address emerging needs and promote continued growth and development.

6. Transition Planning:

As students prepare to transition to new environments or stages of life, our occupational therapists provide support and guidance to facilitate a smooth transition. Whether transitioning to mainstream classrooms, vocational training programs, or independent living, we work collaboratively to ensure that students have the skills and confidence to succeed.
